Frequently Asked Questions about
Insurance Exams

1. Can I get my blood test results?
- Health Consultants Ltd. does not get any results. Your insurance company may send you a copy. You would need to make your request to your insurance agent, and he/she would have to contact the insurance company.
2. I just saw my doctor; can you use those blood test results?
- Insurance companies have very specific tests they want done, which often include tests for nicotine use and HIV. Most routine doctor visits do not include these tests, which is why they need to be completed when you apply for insurance.
3. Why should I avoid exercise before the tests?
- Some blood tests may be influenced by vigorous exercise, causing changes that may look abnormal. Exercise done just prior to your exam may temporarily raise your blood pressure or pulse.
4. Why should I avoid alcohol 12 hours prior to the blood test?
- Liver enzymes may increase following alcohol intake.
5. Can I drink water and take my pills during the fasting time?
- Drink plenty of water during your fasting time. This helps make the blood draw go easier, and helps with providing the urine sample.
- Take medications, as prescribed, if taken without food. If you need to take food with your medication, request an early morning appointment.
6. Can I use my own doctor for an MD exam?
- Insurance companies have certain criteria for what doctors can be used.
7. Do I have to fast if I am pregnant? (or other health conditions)
- Fasting is preferred, if not required, by most companies. Early morning appointments are available - starting at 5:00 a.m.
8. Why do I have to have different tests than others, such as an EKG?
- Each insurance company bases their requirements on: age; sex; amount of the policy; health history; etc., which is why it is different for each person.
